Introduction to Neon Zone

Leon’s Neon Zone is a dedicated arcade ecosystem designed for Pixels players that would like to shift from pure farming into a skill-based "Play-to-Earn" model. We can see it as a "Game-within-a-Game" economy, serving as an hub for a cool, diversified reward economy. It operates as a multistage gambling and gaming event where players convert time and currencies into fun and value. Through a series of retro-inspired mini games it aims to reward the most active and skilled members of the community.

The Neon Zone Building

If you’re looking to trade your farming tools for an arcade joystick, you won’t have to travel far. Leon’s Neon Zone is located right in the heart of Terra Villa Central. Just West of the central fountain, you’ll find a newly renovated building glowing with vibrant neon lights. You can't miss it, it's the one that looks like a retro-future time capsule landed in the middle of the town square.

Internal Structure

Once you step through the doors, you’ll meet the team running the show. Each NPC serves a specific role in the arcade's economy. The most important are:

  1. Manager Artie: Your first point of contact. He stands near the entrance and gives new players the "run-down" on how the Zone functions.
  2. Bart: The cashier. He runs the booth where you purchase your Zonez Tokens (the arcade's entry currency).
  3. Buffy: Located at the Third Dimension Store just above Artie. This is where you bring your hard-earned Stuff Stubs to buy useful in-game items and decorations.

The building is split into two floors , with the top floor dedicated to the competitive arcade machines. The current lineup includes:

  1. Squish The Fish & Bunny Baiter
  2. Veggie Vexer & Living Labyrinth
  3. Higher Lower & Da Bombs

On the bottom floor you can find Leon's Hold'em arcade game, a Pixels' Poker Texas Hold'em mini-game version that is still in Beta, but also the only one that must be played in multiplayer mode.

Neon Zone Economy

Understanding the flow of currency is the key to maximizing your returns in the Neon Zone.

Event related currencies

To play any game in the arcade, you need Zonez Tokens. Think of these as the physical quarters you’d drop into a machine. You can purchase them from Bart’s Booth. Here you have a breakdown of the costs:

  1. 10-Pack: 45,000 Coins (Limit: 5 purchases per day).
  2. 100-Pack: 20 $PIXEL
  3. 250-Pack: 45 $PIXEL (Includes a 25-Zonez bonus).

Every time you play a game, regardless of your leaderboard rank, you earn Stuff Stubs. These are your primary currency for the 3rd Dimension Store.

Spend them on utility items like "John Moose 3000", exclusive Farm Charm items , or decorations. You can also use Stuff Stubs for gambling in the other mini-games like Da Bomb, Higher Lower or Leon's Hold'em.

Tips and Tricks: Try to buy every day Zonez Tokens with coins and stuck them if you're thinking about competing. If you want to buy Zonez Tokens by using your $PIXELs, wait for some "Offers" that gives you back $PIXELs for $PIXELs spent or use creator codes to save more currencies. If you want to support me, you can use my code for a 5% discount on in-game $PIXELs purchases : ENOENO

Understanding the score system and leaderboard mechanics

To dominate Leon’s Neon Zone, you have to understand that not all games are scored the same way and that the arcade uses three distinct leaderboard mechanics, each with its own reward pool and strategy.

The score system

Stuff Stubs aren't just handed out randomly, they are the direct result of your performance and persistence in the arcade. Every time you finish a game, you are awarded Stuff Stubs based on your score. The better you play, the more stubs you take home. Let's walk through all the games:

  1. Veggie Vexer: The goal is to find the correct arrangement of 10 symbols (4 slots, repetitions allowed) in 5 moves. According to the number of tries you used to guess the combination you’ll get:

1 Move = 378 Stuff Stubs

2 Moves = 367 Stuff Stubs

3 Moves = 356 Stuff Stubs

4 Moves = 345 Stuff Stubs

5 Moves = 334 Stuff Stubs

  1. Bunny Baiter: The goal is to get as many points as possible by digging the holes to find bunnies and hitting moles. Each point will reward you with 25 Stuff Stubs. So for instance if you got 24 points you’ll be awarded with 25 x 24 = 600 Stuff Stubs.
  2. Living Labyrinth: The goal is to escape the labyrinth as fast as possible. Once the game begins, a timer of 150 seconds will start. Each second on the timer gives 1 Stuff Stub. So if you’re able to escape the labyrinth when the timer shows 60 seconds, you’ll receive 60 Stuff Stubs. Additionally, you can earn more Stuff Stubs by opening Chest scattered around the map, containing, in a random way, from almost 5 up to 100 Stuff Stubs.
  3. Squish the Fish: Even in this game the goal is to get as many points as possible by squishing the correct fishes popping out of the ice holes. Each point grant you 6 Stuff Stubs.
  4. Da Bomb: The goal is to avoid bombs by revealing hidden tiles on a square of 5x5 = 25 tiles. You can bet 5000 Stuff Stubs or 100 Zonez Tokens and for each correct tile you’ll get a multiple of the bet. The more the number of correct tiles you reveal, within the same game, without finding β€œDa bomb”, the more is the multiplier. You can increase the multiplier by increasing the difficulty of the game ( increasing the number of hidden bombs in the tiles) up to 24.

  1. Higher Lower: The goal is to guess, giving a card from a deck of 13 cards ordered in a increasing way ( from 1 to 10, J, Q, K ), the next card picked randomly by an RNG. Even in this can bet 5000 Stuff Stubs or 100 Zonez Tokens and for each correctly guessed card you’ll get a multiple of the bet. The more the number of correct card you guess, within the same game, the more is the multiplier. In this case to increase the multiplier you should choose events that are less likely. For example if your card is 10, choosing β€œHigher”, will have a bigger multiplier than choosing β€œLower”, since it is less likely.

  1. Leon’s Hold’em: In this article I’ll not argue this minigame since it is still in beta version.

The leaderboard mechanics

Each game inside the Neon Zone gives you the possibility to choose between Ranked and Unranked games. While you can play any game as much as you want for fun or to earn Stuff Stubs (unranked), the ranked games are the ones played to participate at the competitions of the event. The arcade uses three distinct leaderboard mechanics, each with its own reward pool and strategy.

  1. The overall Leaderboard: This is the "Main Event." It tracks your total performance across almost all the arcade games on the top floor (Veggie Vexer, Bunny Baiter, Squish the Fish, and Living Labyrinth) for a period of 7 days. Your ranking is based on your total cumulative score from your Ranked Plays. You get 5 Ranked Plays per game, per day. Only the scores from these 5 attempts are added to your leaderboard total. The score is based on the amount of Stuff Stubs you earn per ranked game, so if in one day you get 8000 Stuff Stubs by playing the 4 games mentioned above, your score for that day will be 8000. You cannot "grind" this in a single day. To rank in the Top, you must show up every day and use all your ranked attempts. If you miss a day, you lose out on the potential points your competitors gained. A massive dynamic pool in $PIXEL, that grows as more as players join the competion, is split among the Top 100 players. The Top 3 also receive a limited-edition trophy for their farm. Costs – Fixed : 1225 Zonez Token in total, 175 per day.
  2. The Higher Lower Leaderboard: The Higher Lower game has its own separate leaderboard and prize pool. This is designed for players who prefer "burst" scoring over daily grinding. Unlike the main leaderboard, this tracks your Single Highest Score in a individual session. It doesn't matter if you play 100 times and fail; if your 101st game is a legendary streak, that high score is what sits on the leaderboard. Even in this case the dynamic pool in $PIXEL depends on how many players join the competition. This is a 48h leaderboard. Cost – Variable: Depends on your skill
  3. The Da Bomb Leaderboard: In this leaderboard your rank is determined by your Streak Score in the Da Bomb game. To climb, you need to win multiple rounds in a row without hitting a mine. This is a 48-hour leaderboard and as the other leaderboard the dynamic pool in $PIXEL depends on how many players join the competition. Cost – Variable: Depends on your skill

Minigames Meta

Each machine in the Neon Zone requires a different set of skills. To maximize your Stuff Stubs (SS) and climb the Leaderboards, use these tailored strategies.

Veggie Vexer

Find the correct arrangement of 10 symbols (4 slots, repetitions allowed) in 5 moves. If, after submitting a sequence, the symbol is green, it is correct and in the correct position. If it is yellow, it is correct but in the wrong position. If it is not colored, wrong symbol and wrong position. The less the number of guess, the more the amount of SS you receive. My strategy for this mini-game is a safe approach: Instead of trying to maximize the score, I prefer to be sure to guess the code, since the difference between the different prices is negligible.

Strategy:

Use the first 3 moves to cycle through all 10 symbols. On the 3rd move, place the remaining 2 symbols in positions where you’ve already identified correct ones. On the last 2 moves test for repetitions. Repeat 2 confirmed correct symbols to see if duplicates are required. If neither repeats… it’s very likely the third symbol is the duplicated one. You should be able to get an average of 1800 Stuff Stubs from this mini game.

Living Labyrinth

Escape the labyrinth as fast as possible by finding the lever and avoiding being killed by zombies. The levers always spawn in the same spots but randomly for each game, and they’re used to open the final room full of SS chests and a button to escape the labyrinth and stop the timer. Each chest has a chance to drop SS or zombies. My strategy for this mini-game is to open as many chests as possible without being killed by zombies instead of sprinting the labyrinth.

Strategy:

As you can see in the picture above, I usually walks 2 paths:

  1. The path A has a lot of chests and only 2 possible spots for the lever spawn. Walking this path maximize the SS earning. At the end of the path let a zombie kill you to fastly teleport to the initial spawn.
  2. The Path B has indeed a lot of lever spawn spots and some chests. You necessary have to walk this path if you didn’t find the lever on path A, since the final room is full of β€œgood” chests and you’re interested to open.

If you’re skilled enough you should be able to walks both paths and still have 10-20 seconds left. You should be able to get an average of 1500 - 1800 Stuff Stubs from this mini game.

Bunny Baiter

Tap among 25 holes from 1 up to 14 times until an animal pops up. If the number of taps on the hole become yellow, it means the next tap will pop the animal. Bunnies gives you points while Moles gives you negative points. Hitting an animal turns it worthless, so it will give you zero points after that. Be sure to hit only moles and preserve Bunnies. There is no a real strategy here since it is speed and concentration based mini game.

Strategy:

Try to tap as fast as possible by avoiding hitting bunnies and by hitting all the moles. I personally prefer to play this game on mobile or by using a tablet rather than with the PC since I can tap with both the hand’s fingers. It is mandatory to have a Pet with 100 speed to be competitive in this game, so you’ll be able to tap all the holes by standing in the center of the map. You should be able to get an average of 2500-3000 Stuff Stubs from this mini game.

Squish the Fish

Once the game starts, three types of fishes will pop up from 14 holes in the ice. The golden one gives you 3 points, the silver ones gives you 1 point, the bronze one -5 points. Try to hit as much fishes as possible without touching the bronze one. Even in this case not much strategies can be used, since it’s speed and precision based mini-game.

Strategy:

As for the previous game, it is mandatory to have a Pet with 100 speed to be able to click all the fishes by standing at the center of the map. This will increase fastness that will also increase spawn rate. However it is also necessary that you avoid all the bronze fishes to maximize the score. You should be able to get an average of 2500-3000 Stuff Stubs

To be competitive you should, at the end of the day, be able to secure an overall score higher than 9000 Stuff Stubs at least. Assuming you need to buy 1225 Zonez Tokens with $PIXEL, you need to spend at least 225 $PIXEL. In a competition with 400 players, where all the players under the top 100 have a score less than 6000 in 7 days, the prize pool is of almost 14000 $PIXEL distributed as follow:
3500 $PIXEL
1400 $PIXEL
1050 $PIXEL
700 $PIXEL
350 $PIXEL
280 $PIXEL
280 $PIXEL
280 $PIXEL
280 $PIXEL
280 $PIXEL
All the other positions in the leaderboard will let you lose your investment. Those data were taken from in-game leaderboard.
